Welcome to Borg Perception

The scales for measuring intensity of sensation and experience, subjective somatic symptoms, and feelings, developed by Gunnar Borg in Sweden, can be obtained directly from Borg Perception, Furuholmen 1027, SE-762 91 RIMBO, Sweden.

The "Borg RPE Scale" is a method for measuring perceived exertion and effort in physical work. RPE is commonly determined in clinical diagnostics, therapy and rehabilitation, training of athletes and recreational sports, and in epidemiological evaluations of exercise intensity and daily physical activities.

The "Borg CR10 Scale" is a general method for measuring most kinds of perceptions and experiences, including pain and also perceived exertion (as is the RPE scale). It can be used to measure taste and smell, loudness and noise, brightness and other sensations, but also moods and emotions (e.g., discomfort and anxiety). The scale is commonly used for measuring angina pain and breathlessness (dyspnea) , musculoskeletal pain and other kinds of somatic symptoms. It is, thus, also used in evaluations of "dangerous strain" and risk assessments. Another kind of application concerns the perception of difficulty of mental tasks and the "user interface": the ease of identifying symbols and icons, navigating on the computer, and evaluating listening quality.

Correct administration is important. A special RPE folder has been developed that describes problems in psychophysical scaling and correct administration including instructions. It can be purchased along with three separate scales for 75 SEK or $ 8.50 (USD), plus postage.

A similar CR10 folder with scales can be purchased for 75 SEK or $ 8.50 (USD), plus postage.

Both scales can be obtained in most European languages.
